The news comes amid rumours that Hussain was stepping down from his role at CenturyLink and is reportedly to be replaced by Andrew Dugan, the former CTO of Level 3 Communications, as reported by Capacity back in November.
“Before taking this role, I was given the opportunity over a number of weeks to look very closely at what Collinear has achieved over the last four years,” said Hussain. “I was impressed not only by Collinear’s products and people, but also by the scale of the market opportunity we have in front of us. I am pleased to lead the Collinear team as we bring the current product suite to market. More importantly, I am confident that in the years ahead, we will be able to develop a broader technology platform that will deliver the innovative solutions that our customers will demand as they extend their networks and launch new 5G-related services.”
To the new role Hussain brings over 28 years experience in various technology and product development roles. During his time at CenturyLink he worked towards the digital transformation of the customer facing and networking platforms in software-defined networking as well as a multicloud management platform. Additionally he also drove broadband innovation through implementation of high capacity wireless and wireline technologies such as 5G, Vectoring/Bonding, GPON and G.fast. Prior to CenturyLink Hussain also held senior leadership positions with Liberty Global, Civad, Telus, Qwest, Bellsouth and Motorola.
We are absolutely delighted to announce Aamir’s appointment as CEO,” said Cliff Higgerson, chairman of Collinear. “His extensive experience in building and supporting global telecommunications networks and his previous senior roles in strategy, operations, and technology mean that he has all the qualities needed to unlock the full potential of Collinear. On top of this, he has a passion for innovation and a track record of building highly successful multinational businesses. We are all very much looking forward to working with him.”
