Lakshminarayanan will hold the position of MD and CEO designate advising the interim management committee of the company until the necessary regulatory approvals have been received. At this point, the board of Tata Communications will appoint Lakshmi as the MD & CEO of Tata Communications.

He enters the position with more than 35 years of experience across a broad range of leadership roles, around the world. During his tenure at TCS, he successfully managed and developed scalable businesses. His roles in the company included president and CEO of TCS Japan, global head of telecom, media & information services, HiTech and utilities, and head of TCS UK & Europe.

In July, former CEO of Tata Communications, Vinod Kumar was named as CEO of Vodafone Business. Citing 'personal reasons' Kumar handed in his resignation in July and as of 2 September, now reports to Vodafone Group chief executive Nick Read.
