The new offering, Encrypted Lambda service, encrypts data on hardware located at the client’s site and protects it over Layer 1, the physical layer, while it is transmitted. This makes it different from traditional solutions by allowing larger data volumes with higher performance, reduced costs and faster speeds.
“Our Encrypted Lambda solution is truly an innovation,” said Stuart Evers (pictured), vice president, of access & transport management, Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier. “Other providers use traditional methods, which are software based over Layer 3 or 4. That makes encryption CPU intensive, slower and expensive. Because utilising software requires more servers, adds latency and needs superior set-up and management capabilities.”
Customers that will benefit the most from the Encrypted Lambda service are those needing to transport very large amounts of confidential data very quickly. This could be companies in the financial or healthcare sector that require secure wire-speed data transmission over long distances.
“Data security remains more crucial than ever for businesses around the globe,” added Jamie Jefferies, vice president & general manager of Europe, Ciena. “With Ciena’s WaveLogic Encryption solution, Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier can deliver always-on, proven inflight encryption combined with market-leading performance to its customers where ever they need it.”
