GSMA partners operators to build edge cloud platform
Nine operators are working with the GSMA to develop an interoperable platform to make edge compute capabilities more widely available.
China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, EE, KDDI, Orange, Singtel, SK Telecom, Telefonica and TIM will work with the GSMA to launch the new platform later year, with the goal of making local operator assets and capabilities like latency, compute and storage available to application developers and software vendors in order for them to meet the needs of enterprise clients.
“Based on the GSMA Operator Platform Specification, Telco Edge Cloud will provide enterprise developers and aggregators with a consistent way to reach connected customers,” said Alex Sinclair, CTO at GSMA.
KKR bids for Telecom Italia
Private equity firm KKR has expressed interest in purchasing a minority stake in Telecom Italia (TIM).
Speaking to Bloomberg sources said the KKR may purchase buy as much as 49% of the landline unit worth approximately €7.5 billion ($8 billion).
Since the story broke shares in TIM rose by 2.5% in Milan trading.
The news follows a story earlier this month where TIM reportedly chose KKR to support it in its merger with Open Fiber.
TIM was close to selecting KKR due to the company’s previous interest in investing in TIM’s secondary network, specifically the part that connects street cabinets to subscribers’ homes.
VMware launches workload and network security solutions
VMware has announced a number of new innovations to support its goal in making security intrinsic to the digital enterprise.
These offerings include, VMware Advanced Security for Cloud Foundation, which will enable customers to replace legacy security solutions and deliver unified protection across private and public clouds.
There are also advancements to the VMware Carbon Black Cloud, which including automated correlation with the MITRE ATT&CK framework and upcoming prevention coverage for Linux machines.
And lastly the new VMware Secure State auto-remediation capabilities to automate action across cloud environments and proactively reduce risk.
Mavenir and Turkcell partner on OpenRAN
Mavenir has struck a business partnership with Turkcell to test and deploy OpenRAN vRAN within the Turkcell Group.
The partnership will begin with fully containerised CU/DU and Open FH with Split 7.2 in trial and planned deployments, while the virtual RAN solution will be deployed on Turkcell Telco Cloud, making it the first workload going live on Turkcell Edge Cloud.
With open interfaces, the solution has the flexibility to support various deployment scenarios – including functional split 2 for enterprises and split 2 & 7 for macro cells. It can also support massive MIMO, edge micro services and network slicing for 5G NR.
Amy Marks joins Autodesk Construction Cloud
Amy Marks of XSite Modular, has reportedly sold the critical infrastructure construction company whilst retaining an undisclosed portion of its equity,
According to OpenCables, Marks has made ‘handsome profit’ on the deal that has enabled her to join Autodesk Construction Cloud as its new head of industrialized construction strategy & evangelism.
In a post on the Autodesk website Marks said: “I decided to join Autodesk because I feel it is truly the best-positioned company in the world to enable a transformational change to optimize industrialized construction, including prefabrication.”
Autodesk Construction Cloud, combines technology, a builders network and predictive insights to connect people and data across the entire building lifecycle, from design through operations.
