Based in Bonn, Germany, it is the third role Sumesgutner has held at Deutsche Telekom since his February 2017 appointment as SVP of fixed mobile engineering Germany.
Prior to Deutsche Telekom, Sumesgutner worked for A1 Telekom Austria AG, where over the course of his six years with the company, was responsible for the introduction of MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) in the nationwide Telekom Austria backbone.
In its full year financial results published in February, Deutsche Telekom saw revenues increase 6.4% to reach €80.5 billion, with profit up by almost 80% to €3.9 billion.
In Europe – where, according to CEO Tim Höttges, the company’s future strategy will include the acquisition of rival telcos – growth is driven by fixed-network and mobile service revenues, which grew 2% in organic terms, year on year, in Q1, 2020.
Between January and March Deutsche Telekom reported that its European national companies acquired 110,000 new mobile contract customers, 65,000 new broadband customers, and 238,000 new users of product packages combining fixed network and mobile communications. More than half of all broadband households now use these convergent offers.
