TIM acquisition paves the way for cloud spin off

Telecom Italia (TIM) is to expand its public, private and hybrid cloud services as it prepares to launch a newco dedicated to cloud and edge computing services.

The news follows TIM’s confirmation yesterday that is has acquired Italian Google Cloud partner Noovle, an Italian ICT consultancy and system integration company specialised in the supply of cloud projects and solutions in Italy.

TIM said the acquisition of a one of Google Cloud’s main partners in the Italian market would allow it to “gather significant speed through the future creation of its own newco dedicated to cloud and edge computing services”.

“We are happy to welcome Noovle into TIM’s Group. As the reference partner of Google Cloud in Italy, it will allow us to complete our expertise in this sector,” said Carlo D’Asaro Biondo, TIM’s recently appointed EVP of cloud projects.

“With the synergies it will bring, we expect a significant acceleration on the supply front and strengthening of our position on the market. In welcoming Noovle’s professionals, I reflect on the ambitions of TIM’s Cloud project and look forward to the path we are going to take together,” he added.

D’Asaro Biondo joined TIM this year following 10 years at Google, where he most recently held the post of EMEA president of partnerships and strategic relationships.

It has in-depth technical expertise with more than 100 professionals certified in the development of web and mobile applications based on the Google Cloud has been working with TIM since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic to support the Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digitisation’s in promoting business continuity.
