Open Fiber is an Italian neutral wholesale-only telecommunication operator and its vision is to CONNECT the whole of Italy with the fiber optic network technology. It is jointly owned by Enel, the biggest European multi utility company, and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), the Italian government investment bank. The solidity of its shareholders is a guarantee for reliability and for futureproof systems, which makes Open Fiber the ideal company for any long-term partnerships. Although Open Fiber is a national network, it was created as an international project thanks to its international management that has brought innovation to the organization’s final vision and mission.
Open fiber’s project aims to cover all the industrial areas, data centers, all the carrier neutral tele-houses and Cable Landing Stations in both large cities and rural areas. The mission is to build the most extensive all fiber ultra-broadband network throughout the country.
Open Fiber, not only created the access network (so called last mile), but also the national backbone which connects all of its Point of Presence in main relevant cities, all equipped with cutting edge technology up to 600Gbit/s per wavelength.
The full-optical fiber network, developed by Open Fiber, is the only one capable of meeting the strong growth in demand for bandwidth and ensuring the connection speed needed to meet the European Union's targets for the Gigabit Society by 2025.
Open Fiber’s project is TO CONNECT 20 mln dwellings all across Italy, covering more than 300 major cities and more than 7.000 medium and small towns within all 20 Italian regions, which therefore makes Open Fiber the third largest full fiber optic service provider in Europe. With its 6.5 billion euro investment, Open Fiber is the biggest-ever project financing deal for a fiber optic network in the EMEA region.

Open Fiber has developed an online user-friendly graphic feasibility and quotation tool identified as OQT (On line Quotation Tool). The tool is a web-based portal through which it is possible to perform a feasibility study and a real time quotation.
