"The ADC system provides the highest cable capacity and necessary diversity for Asia’s key information hubs, which will enable carriers and service providers to better plan their networks and services for a sustainable development," said Chang Weiguo, co-chair of the ADC at China Telecom.
The soon to be built 9,400km system will connect China (Hong Kong SAR and Guangdong Province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
"This new system will contribute to drive the Asian ICT business growth as one of the core infrastructures in the region and to meet the evolving marketplace,” added Koji Ishii co-chair of the ADC at SoftBank
“As a leading submarine cable system vendor, NEC has successfully provided many trans-Asia submarine cable systems, making the company the most reliable choice for the ADC supply partner."
The ADC Consortium is comprised of CAT, China Telecom, China Unicom, PLDT, Singtel, SoftBank, Tata Communications and Viettel, has selected NEC Corporation to build the new cable.
“The Asia Direct Cable we're building will meet the rapidly growing demand for high-speed connectivity for advanced technologies such as 5G, IoT-related services, and high-definition video in the economically dynamic regions of East and Southeast Asia,” said Ooi Seng Keat, vice president of carrier services, ott and satellites, group enterprise at Singtel.
“The new cable will enhance our infrastructure and also our ability to harness new technologies for future growth.”
The cable will feature multiple pairs of high capacity optical fibres with a design capacity of more than 140Tbps, enabling high capacity transmission of data across the East and Southeast Asian regions.
Once completed, the ADC’s high capacity will support increasingly bandwidth-intensive applications driven by emerging technologies like 5G, the cloud, the IoT and AI.
"As the supplier of the ADC Cable, NEC continues to support critical infrastructure in Asia. This advanced optical fibre submarine cable system will provide seamless connectivity to the countries it lands in and the regions it services," said Atsushi Kuwahara, general manager of the submarine network division at NEC Corporation.
The ADC has an expected completion date of Q4 2022.
