Telia Company has announced a series of changes to the line-up of its executive management team, following the divestment of its stake in Turkcell Holdings and exit from Turkey as a country market.

News of Telia Company’s departure from the Turkish market  broke last week, when the Turkish Wealth Fund confirmed it would buy Telia’s 47.1% holding in Turkcell Holding, the only NYSE-listed company in Turkey.

The deal was finalised for US$530 million “in preparation of a renewed Nordics and Baltics strategy”, according to Telia.

Allison Kirkby, who assumed the role of president and CEO in in Q2 of this year, will remain at the top supported by acting group CFO Douglas Lubbe; Jonas Bengtsson, EVP, general counsel and head of corporate affairs; and Cecilia Lundin, EVP, head of people and brand.

However, the new market strategy will see the departures of Ingrid Stenmark SVP, head of CEO office; Åsa Jamal SVP, head of group communications; and Emil Nilsson SVP, head of Lithuania, Estonia and Denmark.

Peter Borsos, SVP, head of Telia Global, will continue in his present role and will also oversee group communications until the new organisation is implemented, before leaving in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Joining Telia Company is former CEO of Alltron AG, Markus Messerer, who takes on SVP, chief of strategy, innovation and head of global business; and Millicom EVP Rachel Samrén, who is now Telia’s SVP, chief external affairs, governance and trust officer.

Telia Lithuania CEO Dan Strömberg will take on the additional responsibilities of SVP, head of Lithuania, Estonia and Denmark.

Markus Messerer and Rachel Samrén will join Telia Company during the fourth quarter of 2020 and Dan Strömberg will start in his new role on August 1, 2020.

“As we prepare to renew Telia’s purpose and strategy, I am delighted that Markus, Rachel and Dan will join our Group Executive Management team. Each of them are experienced and outstanding leaders, who will be excellent role models of the Telia values, and bring a broad range of sector knowledge and hands-on operational experiences from our industry, and beyond. I have every confidence that these changes will help us accelerate our transformation journey and establish a new era of success for Telia”, said Allison Kirkby, President and CEO of Telia Company.

“I also want to give my huge and heartfelt thanks to Ingrid Stenmark, Peter Borsos, Emil Nilsson and Åsa Jamal who all have been valuable members of Telia Company’s Group Executive Management for many years, and have contributed significantly to the company.”
