Launched across seven states and the Federal district in July, Viasat expects that upon completion of the residential launch rollout by year-end, it will be the only satellite ISP capable of making high-speed internet available across the entire country.
Using bandwidth from the Telebras SGDC-1 satellite to, Brazilians can receive speeds up to 20 Mbps and data-rich packages that offer up to 80GB of data per month.
“The expansion of Viasat's residential service means that more Brazilians now have access to reliable, high-speed satellite-based internet service, even in the hardest-to-reach locations,” said Bruno Soares Henriques, commercial director of Viasat Brazil.
“From our initial launch, we have seen tremendous demand for high-quality internet service in states including São Paulo and Amazonas. Bringing our connectivity to 14 additional states provides us with an opportunity to help connect even more people in unserved or underserved areas. The expansion of our residential internet service demonstrates our commitment to Brazil.”
Viasat has also been busy in other global markets. In June the firm partnered with BT and NSSLGlobal to deliver satcom services to the UK defence and space sectors. This was followed in September with news that Viasat will be the first and only satellite internet partner in BCN's portfolio, to help address coverage gaps for businesses outside of high-speed connectivity areas. In 2019 Viasat launched a high-speed internet project with Facebook and in 2018 the company signed a US$10 million contract with Avanti.
