Forming part of Three’s end to end network transformation, the partnership forms part of a £2 billion+ investment to overhaul Three’s network to deliver a better customer experience increasing 4G speeds by up to 150%.
“We are investing significantly to transform our entire network experience, which will support our customers who use three times more data than the average UK consumer,” said Susan Buttsworth (pictured), chief operating officer, Three UK.
“Fibre backhaul is a vital part of a reliable network experience and our partnership with Colt will mean better connectivity for our customers across the UK.”
Under the terms of the deal, Colt’s technology will deliver 20 times more backhaul capacity on the sites it is being deployed on giving customers a faster and more reliable experience.
With three times as much 5G spectrum as its nearest competitor, the £2 billion+ investment will support Three UK’s goal of delivering better connectivity for its customers.
“Colt has been readying itself for the future of mobile connectivity. We are excited that Three UK has recognised our capability and has named us as a strategic partner for its 5G deployments,” added Keri Gilder, chief executive officer at Colt.
“We believe in the transformative power of connectivity, and we know 5G is going to drive businesses and societies forward, so we are thrilled that the Colt IQ Network is going to play a critical role in the 5G evolution for the UK.”
According to the two, fibre backhaul is a critical part of delivering a great network experience and the technology will complement its recent upgrades to over 4000 sites with improved 4G, fully virtualised core network, 20 new data centres and 5G in over 100 locations.
