Moon (pictured), who joined the telecoms conglomerate in 1993, was name group CEO designate on 1 October 2020 with the role of group CEO coming into effect on 1 January.
Moon takes over from Chua Sock Koong, who announced her retirement in October. The same month, Singtel announced it had deployed Singapore’s first 5G standalone (SA) trial network at its 5G Garage testing facility.
Drawing on his decades of experience with Singtel, Moon will take overall responsibility for the group’s businesses, overseeing all six subsidiaries as well as the group's major projects, which include the Southern Cross NEXT submarine cable.
Between 2012 and 2020 Moon held the role of CEO of Singtel's consumer business in Singapore and served as its chief digital officer from 2018 until last year.
In addition to his new CEO role, Moon will continue to serve the boards of several key Singtel subsidiaries as well as the board of commissions in Telkomsel. He is also a board member of GSMA, Singapore Institute of Management Group Limited and SkillsFuture Singapore, and a member of the Advisory Council of the Lifelong Learning Endowment Fund and the Digital Readiness Council at the Ministry of Communications and Information.
Moon holds a first class honours degree in engineering from the University of Western Australia and a master of science in management from Stanford University.
