The new networks will total more than 1,000 route miles, serving the cities of Fort Wayne and South Bend, Indiana; Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky; and Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo, Ohio.
The project forms part of Everstream’s strategy to install up to 3,000 new route miles of fibre in its Midwest footprint in 2021. Everstream delivers high-capacity fibre from the core network to the cell tower at 100Gbps+, giving carriers the flexibility required to scale their networks on demand.
In addition, the multi-city buildout enables Everstream to give enterprises high-capacity connectivity as they scale as well. This is driven by the need for increasingly dense fibre networks by enterprises’ as they increasingly require high-bandwidth connectivity as well as the need for data centres to push closer to business customers.
“Everstream continues to cement its position as the premier fibre provider in the Midwest,” said Brett Lindsey (pictured), president and CEO of Everstream.
“Demand for 5G services is just beginning and will require high-capacity fibre networks to support this growth. By architecting and building new fibre networks in these markets, we will help support the 5G initiatives of wireless carriers and serve enterprises for years to come.”
Everstream plans on adding 2,000 - 3,000 route miles per year over the next few years to its existing network of 15,000 route miles of fibre. It will also evaluate its strategic acquisitions through its build-and-buy strategy.
In related news, November saw Everstream entered into a definitive agreement with Uniti that will see it extend its fibre network by 35%. Everstream has agreed to acquire Uniti’s assets and customer base for an undisclosed sum, adding 5,600 route miles to its fibre network.
