In his new role, Ward will be responsible for driving the strategy and commercial performance of Three’s MVNO business in the UK.
Ward enters the role with over 20 years of experience in the telecoms industry, across enterprise, consumer, IoT and wholesale markets. He previously held a number of senior leadership roles at Vodafone and originally joined Three UK as head of MVNO in 2014 and held the position till 2019.
“Our MVNO division is a key focus area for the company and Matt’s breadth of experience and business knowledge will help us fulfil our ambition in the MVNO market. I’m very excited to welcome Matt to the team,” said John Dunican, director of MVNO and carrier services at Three UK & Ireland.
During his five-year tenure, Ward helped Three UK’s MVNO business grow exponentially and now re-joins the Three business from Lycamobile, where he served as chief commercial officer for two years. While at Lycamobile Ward was responsible for their network relationships in 23 markets as well as the expansion of the business into new markets across the globe.
“I’m delighted to be re-joining Three UK and excited by the opportunity to scale our growing MVNO division at a time when Three UK is making significant investments in network, technology and customer experience,” added Ward.
Ward joins Three UK as the company is investing £2bn+ to deliver the UK’s fastest 5G network and has recently extended its deal with Dixons Carphone, providing them continued access to its network for iD mobile.
In related news, January saw Three UK partner O2 and Vodafone to build 222 new mobile masts to boost rural coverage across country. The news formed the first part of a Shared Rural Network between the three and will increase coverage in specific parts of the UK through the new mobile infrastructure.
