Matrixx Software has joined Tech Mahindra and Wipro in a project to transform the IT architecture of Telefónica’s O2 Germany.

Californian company Matrixx Software will supply its digital commerce platform to the telco for its 5G network.

Mallik Rao, CTIO of Telefónica Germany, said: “The Matrixx solution provides O2 with a modern, configurable and cloud native charging platform especially for our future 5G standalone network, which supports us to further improve customer experience, go-to-market faster and reduce our IT operating costs.”

The announcement follows one last month from Indian company Wipro that it will transform O2 Germany’s IT transformation with business support systems and associated quality assurance. Tech Mahindra, also based in India, said it has a strategic partnership with the German operation to drive its end-to-end IT transformation.

The tie-up will enable O2 Germany to deliver faster product launches and provide a more human-centred experience to its customers in the mass market segment, said Tech Mahindra.

Glo Gordon, Matrixx CEO, said that Telefónica Germany “is forging the way with a next-generation architecture to transform business agility and deliver a step-change in digital experience as they prepare for 5G evolution.”

Matrixx said that, once deployed, the new IT stack will serve as the modern architecture to replace Telefónica’s legacy charging and monetisation systems.

Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte said last month: “This partnership builds on the bedrock of a 15-year relationship. It directly aligns us with Telefónica Germany’s growth, and is a great example of how we are building for long-term success in Europe by embracing a collaborative approach with local industry leaders. I am also proud of the work ethic of both teams who made it possible to finalise this partnership during a global pandemic.”

Rao said: “Our large-scale IT transformation project is a key milestone for us in order to increase the reliability of our systems, improve our customer satisfaction, accelerate innovation and time-to-market as we move towards our 5G goal for consumers and business.”
