Chimhende enters the role with a wealth of telecoms and managerial having previously served as managing director in multiple East African countries, including Uganda.
His appointment forms part of the strategic acquisition plan of Datanet by BringCom, in which the company expanded its service coverage beyond Uganda in 2020 by managing new commercial customers in East and West Africa.
As such, Chimhende will further support in the execution of its strategy as well as launch additional services in the region. Under his leadership, BringCom aims to position Datanet as a competitive communication solutions provider in the region.
In related news, February saw BringCom confirm the completion of its pan-African fibre ring network. The new fibre backbone will connect BringCom’s points of presence in East and West Africa to its European hub in London.
“This pan-African fibre ring offers our corporate and government customers seamless connectivity and increased redundancy in Africa.” said Fabrice Langreney, president and CEO of BringCom.
In addition, the new fibre ring will enable customer’s international traffic to be interconnected via numerous cable landings to the networks of its local partners and BringCom’s domestic last-mile circuits in Africa is now enhanced by the additional protection built in to its continent-wide backhaul network.
