At the same time, Kyndryl will be headquartered in New York City, a move that Schroeter said locates its team "in one of the world's most vibrant and global urban centres” and in turn “underscores our commitment to the economic health of cities".
The name Kyndryl is a combination of two words that align with new company's identity and mission. The first is Kyn, taken from the word kinship and referencing the belief that relationships with people are at the centre of the strategy, and that long-lasting relationships must be built and nurtured.
The second word Dryl, comes from the word tendril, which represents new growth and the idea that the business is committed to progress.
"Creating a name is just the start of our journey as a brand. It will help identify us and support recognition, but the meaning of the name will be built and enhanced over time from our behaviours, aspirations and actions, and what we enable our customers to do,” added Maria Bartolome Winans, chief marketing officer at Kyndryl.

Once opertational Kyndryl form partnerships with a diverse range of technology partners, to help customers build strong, secure, resilient and adaptive digital capabilities.
Schroeter was named CEO of the new managed services company back in January of this year, having previously served as IBM's senior vice president of global markets.
