The CDB has selected data centre projects company Exp US Services as the preferred architectural design firm for the new Tier 3 Central Computing Facility located in Springfield (pictured). The CDB will oversee the project's design and construction.
The facility will be used by the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology. “As we plan for the future a secure and modern data centre is essential to accommodating rapidly evolving technology to meet the needs of state agencies,” said Jennifer Ricker, acting secretary for the Department of Innovation & Technology.
“Advancing the Central Computing Facility project is critical to strengthening the digital infrastructure for the state of Illinois.”
The project is part of the state's Rebuild Illinois capital stimulus plan, which will invest a total of $45 billion in roads, bridges, railways, universities, early childhood centres and state facilities. It is designed to create and support an estimated 540,000 jobs over the life of the six-year plan.
Governor JB Pritzker said of the data centre: “This new computing facility will further strengthen our state's standing as a technology powerhouse by providing the Department of Innovation & Technology with a cutting-edge computing facility that will allow the state's infrastructure to continue modernising and evolving.”
CDB executive director Jim Underwood added: “We look forward to working with Exp US Services due to their experience and expertise with similar building types and use.”
