The financing round was led by Lumen Technologies, with additional participation from existing investors Foundry Group and Next Frontier Capital, and new investor Andreas Family Office.
“This latest influx of investment signals strong confidence in Section's position within the potential $800 billion edge computing ecosystem,” said Section.
The Section platform is designed to make edge infrastructure provisioning, workload orchestration, scaling, monitoring and traffic routing easier and more efficient. The Section edge is built on the backbone of a vendor-agnostic global network of leading infrastructure providers
“Section has been a key technology partner around edge application delivery on the Lumen platform,” said Paul Savill, Lumen senior vice president for enterprise product management and services. “We look forward to continued work together to deliver solutions that drive secure digital experiences at the edge.”
The partnership between Section and Lumen goes back nearly two years with Lumen CDN Edge Compute platform being powered by Section.
Stewart McGrath, co-founder and CEO of Section, said: “The edge is key to a better internet versus legacy centralised cloud as end users demand faster and more secure experiences. We help development and operations teams access the power of the edge with the simplicity of cloud.”
Over the past year Section has released several edge-first data connectivity technologies. These include its Adaptive Edge Engine, which intelligently and continuously tunes and re-configures edge delivery networks to ensure edge workloads are running in optimal locations to meet real-time traffic demands.
In addition, its Node.js Edge Hosting offering empowers DevOps teams to run mission critical Node.js applications at the network edge for “blazingly fast results” with enterprise level AppSec protection.
And its Traffic Monitor gives DevOps engineers, application owners and business leaders “an easy way” to quickly visualise how traffic is flowing through their edge architecture.
Founded in 2012 in Sydney, Australia, Section moved its headquarters to Boulder, Colorado in 2016.
