Last month, the firm added 20,000 sq ft in the shared building at the 55 Marietta downtown location. At the time, it also added 2MW of IT capacity, and it has now added a further 2MW.
The latest move has seen the company acquire a 16th-floor colocation space from Cyber Wurx - an Atlanta-based technology company - to enable the expansion.
The Metro Data Center now occupies four floors of 55 Marietta and has a total capacity of 6MW. The total space of the facility now stands at 62,000 sq ft over floors two, five, eight and 16. American Tower first moved into the building two years ago.
Customers have access to the American Tower Internet Exchange, a neutral peering point connecting internet service providers, content service providers, enterprise networks and others.
Cyber Wurx will continue to occupy part of the 16th floor as an American Tower anchor tenant, to serve its existing customers.
“The volume of enterprises connecting through Atlanta, including our Metro Data Center, has increased as the market has gained popularity,” said David Fox, director of business development for US innovation at American Tower.
This March, American Tower launched a new tenant-ready edge data centre in Pittsburgh, its sixth edge facility across the US.
