The expansion includes more than 100 miles (160km) of new, high-count fibre throughout the market, planned in two phases. Phase 1 – highlighted in blue on the map – will be completed in Q1 of 2022, while the additional proposed routes – mapped in red – are targeted for mid-2022.
Lightpath said the build will "dramatically strengthen" its density in Queens, where it reports that enterprise-grade connectivity solutions are in high demand.
Lightpath CEO Chris Morley said: "Queens is a robust market for connectivity services and Lightpath will extend its reach to customers throughout the area with this network build. Queens, and New York City as a whole, remain a major focus for Lightpath, and we will continue to invest in our network infrastructure and our team members in this region to provide the best solutions and support to our customers.
“This significant network build is not an isolated project. We will continue to aggressively increase the reach of our network where we see strong customer demand.”
Lightpath – which is 50.01% owned by Altice USA and 49.99% owned by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSIP) – expanded into Boston in June by way of three acquisitions.
Those deals saw it take ownership of Cambridge Network Solutions (CNS), a second area connectivity provider, and Hub Fiber's fibre network assets.
The acquisitions made Lightpath the first all-fibre, enterprise-grade connectivity provider to enter the Boston market since industry consolidation began over a decade ago.
Following this latest update all customers now have access to the entire Lightpath network of more than 18,000 route miles connecting more than 12,000 locations. Further, customers will be able to utilise Lightpath services to connect between New York Metro and Greater Boston.
In New York, Queens and Manhattan customers now have access to the entire portfolio of Lightpath all-fibre solutions, including Optical Transport (up to 800 Gbps), Ethernet (to 10 Gbps), Internet Access (to 100 Gbps), Private Networks, Dark Fibre, SD-WAN, Voice, Security Solutions, and other managed services.
Across its network Lightpath also offers access to 75+ on-net data centres on its network, eight cable landing stations, and all major cloud providers.
