The company has paid the equivalent of around $70 million for the data centre.
When fully developed, GreenBush is expected to have 19MW of power, to support 2,280 racks in 24 server rooms across 56,000 sq ft.
The facility is located in a “tax-privileged” special economic zone (SEZ), and is already serving hundreds of clients following the commissioning of the first of its three planned modules. The remaining two are expected to be brought online in the “near future”, said MTS.
Igor Egorov, MTS vice president for infrastructure development, said: “MTS has become one of the largest data centre players in Russia thanks to our balanced strategy of building out modular data centres as well as opportunistically looking at attractive assets on the market.”
When fully equipped, he said, GreenBush will rank among the “top-five” data centres in Russia going by capacity.
MTS plans to use the facility’s additional capacity to market colocation and cloud solutions to third parties, including more than 25 services under its #CloudMTS brand.
It will also help meet the firm's own compute and storage needs. GreenBush, a Tier-3 facility, becomes the twelfth major data centre in MTS’s nationwide network.
It has four in Moscow, two in Nizhny Novgorod, and one each in Moscow Region, Leningrad Region, Samara, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok and Krasnodar.
