This year's ITW takes place from 29 August to 1 September, in Washington D.C. and online, with registration now open.
While the traditional fun run cannot go ahead this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, there will be lots of news on TSF's recent and current projects, as well as funding updates. Those who wish to donate are able to do so.
Announcing its participation in the 2021 event, TSF said the telecoms industry has always played an important role in facilitating its work.
TSF added: "At the intersection between technological innovation and humanitarian field experience, when the collaboration is founded on shared values, the impact we can have in helping vulnerable people around the world to regain control of their lives and hope in the future is considerable.
"It is for these reasons that TSF continues to strongly believe in the importance of these fruitful exchanges between the humanitarian and telecom world. It is to ensure that technological innovation is not only improving and making our daily lives more comfortable, but that it is also bringing a glimmer of hope to communities who have lost everything, communities who are in dire need of all that research and development can offer."
Founded by Jean-François Cazenave, TSF works to ensure the most vulnerable people, including migrants, refugees and victims of war and disaster are able to access connectivity – whether it be for humanitarian reasons or during rescue work.
Despite disruption caused by the pandemic, last year TSF worked on projects in 10 countries across four continents, including Lebanon after the explosion at the Port of Beirut. There, TSF facilitated the coordination of UNDAC’s search and rescue teams working to assist the victims of the disaster, as well as the assessment operations.
Most recently, the team has been in Germany following the floods last month (pictured).
