It said the cable will secure high-speed connectivity and capacity to new and existing customers in the region, but will also “future-proof” the Nordics as an attractive area for global tech industry investments, said GlobalConnect.
The project will primarily cater to GlobalConnect’s wholesale business, GlobalConnect Carrier, targeting tech giants’ high-capacity needs, carriers as well as system integrators.
Regina Donato Dahlström, CEO of GlobalConnect Carrier, said: “This is the largest digital infrastructure project we’ve seen in the Nordics in recent years.
Robust and future-proof infrastructure for high-capacity data is crucial to global technology companies looking at the Nordics as a potential area of establishment.”
The backbone fibre cable used in the new project will handle “three million times more data than standard cables commonly used to connect private households”, GlobalConnect added.
The project has just started, it said, and will be “finalised within 12 months”.
The group delivers end-to-end solutions across its own infrastructure consisting of 84,000km of fibre network and 291,000 sq ft of data centre space in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Finland. It is owned by investment firm EQT.
