Hurricane Electric deployed a new Point of Presence (PoP) in the 1MW Irontrust Prov.net PVD2 data center, itself is located in "fibre alley", one of the state's major industrial, commercial, medical, and finance centres offering what Hurricane described as "the most fibre rich area in Rhode Island".
The PoP will provide enterprises in and around southern New England with improved fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in the delivery of next generation IP connectivity services.
Customers of Prov.net PVD2 as well as other organizations near Providence now have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports.

Customers at the facility are also able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s global network, which offers over 20,000 BGP sessions with over 9,000 different networks via more than 250 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
The news continues a busy year to date for Hurricane Electric. In January it announced a contract to deliver IP transit for Digital Realty’s data centres in nine global metros, with the news quickly followed by the news it would deploy a PoP at NJFX, the Cable Landing Station (CLS) colocation campus in the US.
April saw the firm add 13 PoPs across the EdgeConneX network and in April it confirmed a second PoP in New Zealand.
