“Ufa – Kazan is a unique, alternative route providing customers access to the full RETN product suite of high bandwidth, high availability services," said Dmitry Lopata, commercial director of RETN in Russia (RetnNet).
"We look forward to helping all partners with their connectivity solutions and to developing our network further in the future to provide the full RETN experience to all Russian regions.”
The new 695km DWDM route connects the capitals of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Republic of Tatarstan and provides access to all major points of presence (PoPs) around Asia, Russia, and Europe.
The new route is a continuation of the Infinera DWDM line system, using modern coherent systems without the use of dispersion compensators. The system is currently configured to deliver 8Tbps bandwidth but it can be upgraded to 32Tbps.
The news follows on from the company's announcement in October that it was to enhance its network presence with a new DWDM route Rezekne, Latvia – Daugavpils, Latvia – Vilnius, Lithuania.
The full route, once complete, will also improve network redundancy for the capital of Lithuania by adding a third diverse route coming to Vilnius. It complements the TRANSKZ cable system as an additional redundant route.
In related news, October saw RETN named winners of the Best Central and Eastern European Wholesale Carrier at the 2021 Global Carrier Awards.
