Last week a government statement revealed that Starlink had been told to comply with regulations, telling the public to refrain from “booking/rendering the satellite internet services in India with immediate effect”.
The company had registered its business in India at the beginning of the month and has started to pre-sell its services according to the Indian government.
Starlink faced scrutiny from the Indian government in April when it began to examine whether its beta rollout broke an of its telecoms laws.
Despite this, the firm plans to deploy 200,000 devices in India by 2022 with 80% of those located in rural areas.
In May, Starlink said it had received half a million orders for its broadband services.
At the time, Musk said on Twitter: “Only limitation is high density of users in urban areas.” But capacity would be “more of a challenge when we get into the several million user range”
