Ofcom fines O2 for providing inaccurate info
Ofcom has announced it has fined O2 £150,000 for failing to provide complete and accurate information during an investigation by the regulator into the telco’s billing issues.
O2 was fined £10.5 million by Ofcom earlier this year for overcharging thousands of its customers and as part of that investigation, Ofcom says it requested information from O2.
This information proved to be incorrect and incomplete, and the regulator says it contributed to the investigation taking longer than necessary to complete.
“O2 has a history of contraventions in this area and demonstrated a level of carelessness in responding to our information requests,” a statement from Ofcom read.
“We have also told O2 to review its processes and systems for responding to our information requests.”
Huawei showcases potential 6G technology
Huawei has showcased a prototype of integrated sensing and communication with optical wireless as a potential 6G technology.
The optical frequency band has “nearly unlimited spectrum resources available” for communication and sensing according to the Chinese vendor.
The ISAC-OW prototype showcased at the one6G event was revealed by Huawei’s research team and can provide high-speed data transmission and high-precision sensing for a large indoor area.
Three major functions are demonstrated: 1) simultaneous high precision localization and high-speed video transmission; 2) contactless real-time monitoring of heartbeat and inspiration; and 3) contactless gesture control of the screen.
The company adds that it is aiming to collaborate with partners in this field for joint testing and demonstrations of new functions to explore new application scenarios.
DE-CIX Richmond now live
DE-CIX has announced that its Richmond Internet Exchange (IX) is now live.
The platform will provide both new and existing interconnected networks with additional capacity, redundancy, scalability and enhanced services which will improve connectivity in the market.
Its newest IX will replace the Richmond Virginia IX which acted a network convergence point and a burgeoning interconnection hub in North America.
The company says that Richmond is a key market for international subsea cables, acting as a natural interconnection point for networks around the area.

GTT partners with Palo Alto to power SASE platform
GTT has announced a security service partnership with Palo Alto Networks to power its new SASE platform.
The partnership will enhance the security, efficiency and control functionality of enterprise networks and will adapt both companies’ networks to meet the requirements of a hybrid workforce.
The GTT SASE platform will use Palo Alto Networks Prisma Access to deploy a set of security features into a single cloud-delivered platform that protects all application traffic.

Edotco to acquire Touch Mindscape in Malaysia
Edotco has announced the acquisition of Touch Mindscape in Malaysia as it advances its push to be a top five towerco in the world.
Touch Mindscape operates around 1,000 sites in Malaysia and Edotco will pay MYR1.7 billion ($404.7 million) to buy the company.
Upon completion of the deal, the company will have over 43,000 towers in its core markets of Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines and Laos.
Edotco Malaysia managing director Wan Zainal Adileen said: “This opportunity expands edotco’s existing presence by significantly scaling up our tower portfolio in the three states of Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka with very limited overlap.”
