The network will be privately funded by Vexus and will introduce more than 70,000 residents and businesses to a symmetrical multi-gigabit speed internet service.
The company aims to begin construction in the summer of next year with availability to some neighbourhoods and businesses by the end of 2022.
Full completion of the entire network throughout all of Laredo will take two years.

The new 100% fibre optic network will increase employment opportunities according to the company and will make the area more attractive to businesses.
The network expansion is part of an ongoing construction plan financed by existing investors Pamlico Capital and Oak Hill Capital who have agreed to invest additional equity toward the expansion.
Vexus Fiber currently operates FTTH networks in Lubbock, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Abilene and surrounding Texas areas as well as in Hammond, Covington, and Mandeville in Louisiana.
The firm is also building new networks in the Rio Grande Valley, Tyler, Nacogdoches and San Angelo, Texas.
