Through various projects, the Portugal-based client focuses on the decarbonisation of shipping, alternative fuels, underwater noise pollution that negatively impacts fauna, and maritime renewable energies.
However, to do this it creates simulations and leans heavily on AI – both of which require massive computing power, ideally using high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure.
Now HPCFLOW, atNorth's HPC and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) solution, will be used to handle big data on a significant scale and to run the intensive calculations that form the foundation of much of this work.

atNorth, which builds and operates data centres in Iceland and Sweden, says its services are "are architected to provide circular economy principles for the data centre industry where renewable energy combined with unparalleled energy efficiency are fundamental". However, no details were provided on how HPCFLOW aligns with this.
