Jisc selects Neos Networks for NW fibre network
Neos Networks has been chosen by Jisc to deliver a new dark fibre network spanning the North-West of the UK.
The new network will replace Jisc’s existing Janet North network and will provide gigabit capabilities to all the sites, with some seeing a ten-fold speed increase.
The contract was awarded following a tendering process and is the latest installment in Jisc’s ongoing overhaul and rationalisation of 15 regional networks connected to the organisation’s national backbone infrastructure.

Juniper unveils SSR tech with new SD-WAN capabilities
Juniper Networks has announced that its customers and partners can now fully deploy, configure and operate the company’s Session Smart Router (SSR) technology via the Mist cloud and AI engine.
The company says this represents a major step forward in the Juniper AI-driven enterprise across wired access, wireless access and SD-WAN domains.

Vodafone, Qualcomm and Thales team for iSIM
Vodafone has teamed with Qualcomm and Thales to demonstrate a working smartphone featuring iSIM – a technology that enables the functionality of a SIM card to be integrated into a device’s processor.
This, the companies say, will pave the way for commercialisation of the technology which could be rolled out in a host of new devices that will use iSIM to connect to mobile services.
The proof of concept demonstration took place in Europe in Samsung’s R&D labs and was based on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G.

Optiva establishes R&D centre in India
Optiva has announced a new R&D facility in Bengaluru, India as it looks to accelerate telecom BSS innovation.
The company has already tripled the size of its R&D team over the past 12 months and the opening of its latest facility follows on from one it had opened in Belfast in 2021.
It adds that it chose Bengaluru because of its reputation as a “thriving technology centre” as it aims to grow its headcount even further.

Megaport announces TD SYNNEX partnership
Megaport has announced a partnership with TD SYNNEX, a global IT distributor as its new Network as a Service (NaaS) provider.
The company says this will allow improved network performance with reduced jitter and latency, reduced cloud egress costs to cloud on-ramps and real-time provisioning of virtual network infrastructure and interconnections.
