Executed by ICT division e-PLDT, it's the largest facility in the group's current plans and is being co-developed with RED Engineering to meet global LEED standards for sustainability.
The project was unveiled less than six months ago, however, back then the details were sparse. Further details were released in February and now construction is underway and partners have been named.
"The PLDT Group is one with the nation in building a digitally advanced Philippines and making our country the next hyperscaler destination in Asia Pacific. With VITRO Sta. Rosa, we aim to set the benchmark in infrastructure resilience, operational excellence, global competitiveness and world-class sustainability," shared PLDT and Smart president and CEO, Alfredo Panlilio.
In the context of PLDT's portfolio of carrier neutral VITRO data centres, facility 11 will be the largest campus "by far". Set on a five-hectare plot it is the first in a series of new build facilities planned to total 100MW once complete.
It will host premiere internet exchanges and will offer Availability Zones and PoPs for hyperscalers and critical systems for enterprises.
Construction partners include Meralco, which will build a dedicated substation on-site and Red Engineering, which specialises in green infrastructure design and engineering. Its role will ensure adherence with global LEED standards and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In February, Jojo Gendrano, EVP and head of enterprise and international at PLDT said: "PLDT and ePLDT have longstanding relationships with global hyperscalers, so we do understand their requirements.
“We have elevated our infrastructure design, our operating practices, and business models in our existing data centres according to what they need, and VITRO Sta. Rosa's design and operations will be very well-suited to hyperscaler standards.”
