The expansion will add 40,000 square feet of raised floor space to the data centre, tripling its current space and giving it a total capacity of 60,000 square feet.
The firm adds that the construction project will add two megawatts of critical power and the second phase of expansion is planned, which itself will add four megawatts.
In total this will bring the site’s total capacity to 7.5 megawatts.
SAN1 is DataBank’s premier data centre facility, and the company says it is a carrier-neutral interconnection hub with access to over 10 on-site carriers and many internet, fibre and cross connect options.
“DataBank originally acquired this data centre site from legacy Kio,” says DataBank vice president of construction, Tony Qorri.
“The customer demand was already there at that time, and the region continues to gain the attention of startups and tech companies looking for access to major markets.
“We see this as a great opportunity to meet the needs of customers who are relying on first-class IT infrastructure to gain traction in the booming San Diego metro.”
San Diego is a key location for DataBank given that the area had the sixth highest percentage gain in software and technology service jobs among 30 major tech cities in North America as reported by the Global Commercial Real Estate Services.
