Kalaam Telecom has unveiled a new business unit that combines the capabilities onboarded from two of its recent acquisitions.

The move unifies Kalaam's proposition for the wholesale market by consolidating the wholesale divisions of regional wholesale carrier Tawasul Telecom and Kuwait’s first ISP Zajil Telecom.

Kalaam updated its network map to reflect the acquisitions last year. Today, at Capacity Middle East the firm has detailed how the two businesses have been carved out and restructured to create Kalaam Carrier Solutions.

Veer Passi, Kalaam Group CEO said: “From the launch of our terrestrial cable system (KNOT) covering GCC in 2021 to reinventing our carrier business model, over the past five years, Kalaam has been driving growth both organically and inorganically through M&A. As we integrate people, process, systems, it’s crucial we maintain a unified brand image to our carrier partners underpinning the combined strength to be a trusted partner focused on supporting the global wholesale community with simplified access to the MENA region."

Over recent years Kalaam has acquired several players from the GCC and last year won the Best Strategic Acquisition category at the GCAs. It has 53 PoPs and three country telecom licenses, along with ownership in the Europe-India Gateway cable and the KNOT system.

Passi continued: “Kalaam has always maintained a challenger mindset in the MENA region allowing it to be carrier neutral, consultative solution driven and be a first choice for carrier based on customer experience, which is what we are very proud of. Like every region MENA also has its personality with unique culture, topology, and complexities and we have specialized in making the complexities of the region simplified for our partners, enabling them to do business seamlessly."

Passi detailed the strategy for Capacity magazine earlier this year, saying at the time that the extended reach is positioning Kalaam to better serve hyperscalers.

“These strategic investments, like cable investments and the Zajil acquisition, have brought in audiences such as hyperscalers that want to use our cable system to leverage the large customer base of the Kalaam group and also reach deeper into the GCC countries,” he said.

In its official announcement for Kalaam Carrier Solutions, the group said: This major consolidation of Zajil & Tawasul wholesale divisions is a game changer for Kalaam and adds to the growing dominance of the region’s fast-growing company."

Passi added: “Kalaam Carrier Solutions, the winning combination of the strong brands is the fast-evolving core backbone of Kalaam group aimed to provide best-in-class infrastructure, fastest routes, low latency connectivity services from our combined network. Our Carrier neutral PoPs in the region enables optimum techno-commercial solutions in delivering, managing networks for carriers, OTTs, hyperscalers, large content providers and various enterprise verticals.”
