The conversation delved into the emerging digital hubs, particularly in Thailand, which, according to the panel, is quickly becoming a key player in Asia’s data centre industry.
"Thailand’s market is growing rapidly, with strong demand from surrounding countries like Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam," Miyashita said. "This reflects the Thai government's initiatives to position the country as a regional hub."
Bakker also emphasised the critical role of connectivity in cloud services.
“The demand for inter-region connections is immense, particularly between Southeast Asia and other parts of Asia,” he noted. “But the challenges of cable deployment and connectivity capacity are significant.”
Meanwhile, the panel also discussed the need for government collaboration in fostering a strong digital ecosystem.
“Investment in infrastructure is vital, but we also need supportive policies that streamline the deployment of cables and data centre,” Bakker added.
He added that out that regions like Southeast Asia still face challenges with inconsistent infrastructure and regulatory hurdles. “Without partnerships with local authorities and governments, it’s nearly impossible to address these issues efficiently.”
“It’s all about finding the right balance,” Miyashita concluded.
