Türk Telekom International (TTI) has announced the appointment of Mehmet Akcin as advisor to the Group CEO, Mehmet C. Toros.

Akcin will support Türk Telekom International’s further growth through creating new business opportunities with OTTs, driving additional revenue through subsea capacity and transforming the sales teams.

“We are excited to have Mehmet Akcin, one of the most well-known telecommunications industry veterans, in our team,” said Mehmet C. Toros, Group CEO at Türk Telekom International, whose network now includes 19 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey, Middle East and the Caucasus.

“We believe bringing distinguished technical talent from Silicon Valley will help us achieve our mission of delivering high quality and flexible telecommunication solutions in Europe, Turkey, the Middle East and beyond."

Akcin has 15 years' experience working in Seattle and Silicon Valley and has already secured six patents to his name during his time with Microsoft. Akcin has a wealth of experience in IP backbones, submarine cables, domain name systems, network security and content delivery networks.

He has most recently served as the senior director for global infrastructure planning and acquisitions at Yahoo (Oath/Verizon), and has previously worked for Microsoft as their director for their global network acquisition group.

The news follows the announcement last month that Seaborn Networks added Akcin to its board of advisors to work on a variety of strategic, commercial and technical opportunities.
