Orange has completed its 100% buyout of Basefarm Holding, a European cloud-based infrastructure and services provider, for €350 million.

The newly acquired Basefarm was purchased through Orange’s enterprise subsidiary, Orange Business Services following approvals from the relevant competition authorities.

Basefarm is an exciting prospect for Orange, as the company achieved revenues of €100 million in 2017 and has seen steady growth since it was founded in 2000.

In addition it has a strong operational presence in Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria and in Germany, through its subsidiary The Unbelievable Machine Company, where it offers where it cutting-edge big data solutions, as well as other cloud-based offerings like big data and artificial intelligence.

Orange says that the deal will complement the existing catalogue of Orange Business Services, reinforcing the company’s strategic position by adding a new source of expertise and innovative technologies, especially in data management, the management of critical applications, big data and multi cloud services. In turn, Basefarm gets the opportunity to accelerate its growth in public, private and multi-cloud services, while at the same time benefitting from access to Orange’s global network and infrastructure.

At the time of announcing the deal, Helmut Reisinger, CEO of Orange Business Services, said: “We are very proud to announce the acquisition of Basefarm, which will mark a major milestone in our international development. In particular, the company’s integration will enable us to significantly extend our big data and critical application management services on a rapidly consolidating market.”

The deal also adds to Orange Business Services’ existing cloud computing operation, which includes more than 1,600 employees and expands its reach to Europe.

Orange Poland recently entered into an agreement with Inea, a Polish regional cable operator, to gain access to its fibre network. Under the terms of the agreement, Orange Poland will get access to an initial 40,000 fibre-to-the-home connections in the Wiekopolska region of western Poland giving Orange additional reach in the area.
