CenturyLink is expanding its Tier III data centre in Santiago, Chile with the addition of a new modular unit.

The new unit expands the CenturyLink’s regional offer of colocation services, hosting, cloud computing, security, collaboration, communication and managed services for current and future clients.

"Located in Huechuraba, north of the Chilean capital, Santiago and close to customers, with 24x7 access and state-of-the-art security systems, this new data centre was built to optimise energy efficiency and space," said Gabriel del Campo, vice president of data centre and security at CenturyLink in Latin America. "By adopting this approach, we were able to have the installation operational in less time, an important benefit for customers eager to take advantage of our data centre services."

The data centre will offer customers with processing environments, high levels of availability, better quality access and greater global connectivity speeds. In addition, the new facility also gives customers increased fibre route diversity for better contingency.

"Our data centre and managed services business is growing," added del Campo. "We require the highest quality in data centres to ensure the provision of the best solutions and services for our customers.”

Just as with CenturyLink’s newly launched data centre in Quito, Ecuador, this Chilean data centre was built using a modular construction alternative called eCentre, a pre-assembled building, that is equipped and tested in-house, and custom-designed. Flexenclosure, a Sweden-based developer of pre-fabricated data centres, recently followed suit launching two new eCentre data centres in Nicaragua and Honduras.

The first phase of the CenturyLink expansion project will involve a 1500KW data centre and a single floor, but the total project has been designed to deliver a two-story vertical expansion, offering additional white space for more than 120 racks on each floor.

Last month, Tierpoint announced the availability of CentruyLink’s Cloud Connect Dynamic Connections would be available at Tierpoint data centres across the US. A total of 35 out of 43 TierPoint data centres are now connected with fibre to CenturyLink’s global network, the majority of which is already enabled with SDN capability.
