Colt has hired former Reliance Jio executive Sujeet Deshpande to head its new data centre operation in India.

Deshpande will be country head of Colt Data Centre Services, which will invest in a hyper-scale data centre campus in Mumbai.

Colt claims that it is “set to be the largest hyper-scale development in India, South Asia and even Asia Pacific (excluding China)”.

Deshpande said: “I’ve already started to work with the management team on the strategy surrounding India expansions plans, and am excited for what the future holds.”

He spent six years, until November 2018, as head of data centre builds and technology planning at Reliance Jio. Before that he spent five years at Tata Communications and a year at Tulip Telecom, working in data centres at both companies.

Detlef Spang, CEO of Colt Data Centre Services, said: “He is a critical member of the team as we set foot into India, a key market with growing demand for quality digital services, and further extend our presence in Asia. Sujeet’s experience and extensive network will be a key ingredient in propelling our international expansion efforts.”

Colt expects to start work building the new Mumbai data centre operation later in 2019 and the company plans to complete the work in late 2020.
