Under the terms of the partnership, Visiontec will act as Viasat’s fulfilment partner and is the process of installing Viasat satellite broadband equipment into schools, hospitals and government facilities with future installations planned for residential, commercial and community Wifi hotspots.

In turn, Viasat is providing the ground network and infrastructure to power the Telebras-owned and controlled SGDC-1 satellite, that will eventually bring affordable, scalable broadband services to communities where internet service has historically been unavailable in Brazil.

In February, Viasat entered into a partnership with Facebook to offer high-speed internet services in rural Mexico. The partnership will see Viasat and Facebook work together to deploy the satellite firm’s Community Wi-Fi hotspot service initially in remote areas of Mexico, with the potential to expand the service globally.
