OptiComm, an Australian fibre and wholesale service provider, has partnered with Juniper Networks to double the size of its network infrastructure across the country.

OptiComm has decided to upgrade its traditional network infrastructure to address long-term growth plans as well as to the support the development of emerging technologies such as mobility, Internet of Things (IoT) and connected vehicles.

“Together with expanding our core network infrastructure across Australia and our customers’ ambitious growth plans, we found that our current networking infrastructure needed to be upgraded to facilitate Smart Cities and 1Gbps services,” said Stephen Davies, chief technology officer of OptiComm. “What we needed was a partner that could support us in our journey toward doubling OptiComm’s core network, while also providing state-of-the-art speed and security. Juniper Networks has a strong reputation for building simple and reliable networks, so they were a natural fit.”

Juniper Networks will use its software-defined networking (SDN)-enabled MX480 5G Universal Routing Platform to help OptiComm manage scale in line with growth. The offering features packed highly scalable routing, switching, security and service features that enable revenue-generating applications.  Additionally, OptiComm has selected Juniper Networks to replace its entire core network.

“We are proud to be partnering with an Australian telecommunications carrier that is expanding quickly and leading the pack in connecting Australians to critical internet, telephone and television services,” continued Ralph Candiloro, senior vice president and general manager of Juniper Networks Asia-Pacific. “At Juniper Networks, we have a shared vision of connecting Australians and businesses quickly, seamlessly and securely, and we’re excited to be enabling new and exciting use cases for OptiComm and its customers.”

In addition to Juniper Networks’ MX240 5G Universal Routing Platform, the company will also utilise its ACX Series Universal Access Router, QFX Series Data Centre Switches, SRX Series Next-Generation Firewalls and EX Series Ethernet Switches for added security and ease-of-management.
