The two new sites in Rio de Janeiro and Fortaleza join NetIX’s list of connected data centres and has added IX.br – the Brazilian internet exchange point as a connected IXP.
These three network enhancements were planned and implemented over the past few months with NetIX members already connecting to and benefiting from improved connectivity across Brazil.
“Peering is a popular and widely used connectivity medium in Europe and in the past couple of years, this trend has risen very sharply across South America; more ASNs are being registered than ever before in Brazil and network are looking for better, faster and more cost-effective way of accessing and sharing content,” said Fabricio Costa, regional director of South America at NetIX.
“NetIX’s unique Global Internet Exchange (GIX) solution is what many Brazilian networks are looking for – they can easily access harder-to-reach and niche IXPs in Europe through NetIX via just on port and one cross connect.”
For many months, NetIX has been strengthening and improving its South American network and its global team to be strongly positioned to handle enquiries and requests in this new area of the market.
At the beginning of September NetIX added two new Internet Exchanges to its network, in strategic locations in Europe and the US.
Speed-IX in Amsterdam and FL-IX in Florida are intended to provide “better connectivity and peering routes” to members and strengthen the Global Internet Exchange (GIX) solution.
At the time, Dean Belev, VP of services at NetIX, said:“Broadening our IXP portfolio is great for our members and our GIX solution.”
“We want to help networks of all sizes get the most from their connectivity, and a NetIX port with GIX enabled is the quickest and easiest way to do this.”
