Ultima acquires global cloud services provider
Automation and infrastructure service provider, Ultima Business Solutions Limited, owned by Apse Capital Limited, has acquired Just After Midnight, a global cloud services provider to digital business.
Just After Midnight will form a new cloud and application services division within Ultima and will continue to scale its full-stack 24/7 support for brands and their digital agencies.
“We’re delighted to announce this acquisition. It strengthens our ability to offer our customers a seamless cloud service around the world,” said Scott Dodds, CEO, Ultima.

Intel loses U.S. patent trial
Intel Corp has been ordered to pay a technology competitor $2.18 billion after a federal jury decided that the chipmaker infringed on its patent.
A federal court ruled on Tuesday that Intel infringed two patents related to chip-making owned by VLSI Technology LLC, to which the jury found $1.5 billion for all damages caused to VLSI and $675 million for the infringement of the other.
Cloudera Cloud-Native Operational Database
Cloudera (NYSE: CLDR) has announced the availability of the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) Operational Database on both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.
“CDP Operational Database enabled us to move one of our main datasets into the new database on AWS in record time,” said Briglal Kattamaparambil, Director of Development at Epsilon.
“We no longer have to worry about infrastructure planning as it is fully self-managed and allows us the flexibility to choose the cloud platform that works best for our business.”
D4t4 Solutions Plc appointment of Interim CFO
D4t4 Solutions Plc has appointed Nitil Patel, FCA, as Interim Chief Financial Officer with immediate effect.
Patel previously held the role of Chief Financial Officer at Dods Group plc and Ten Alps plc (now Zinc Media Group plc). He will not be serving on the Board of D4T4.
His role will be to work with the current CFO, Charlie Irvine, for the rest of his tenure with the Group and until such time as a permanent CFO replacement is found.
The Group is currently undertaking an external search with a view to making a permanent appointment in due course.
Pluribus Networks unveils Partners First Program
Pluribus Networks has announced the “Pluribus Partners First” program, a new global partner program for the company’s partners and customers to acquire and deploy networks based on software-defined networking (SDN) and disaggregated networking.
“Undoubtedly, resellers experienced significant disruption in 2020, with the global pandemic delaying many data centre projects and consolidation among open networking vendors creating unexpected friction for partners,” said Kumar Srikantan, CEO of Pluribus Networks.

Schneider Electric extends 3-Phase easy UPS
Schneider Electric has extended Easy UPS 3L from 250 kVA to 600 kVA (400V) with the addition of 250, 300, and 400 kVA 3-phase Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) for external batteries.
The Easy UPS 3L simplifies and streamlines configuration and service, delivering high availability and predictability to medium and large commercial buildings and light industrial UPS applications.

Platform9 and Mavenir collaborate for 5G webscale platform
Mavenir and Platform9, a Managed Kubernetes provider for private and edge clouds, has announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the rollout of 5G services.
Mavenir intends to leverage Platform9's Kubernetes solution to deliver a robust web-scale platform that runs containerised cloud-native network functions.
"With the advent of 5G, there's a cloud touch to the service provider's network and ecosystem. It represents an evolution of a cloud-native software platform that offers competitive and differentiated services for many customers," said Mavenir Chief Strategy Officer, Bejoy Pankajakshan.

Parler sues Amazon
Social media app Parler has filed a new lawsuit accusing against Amazon.com with claims that the company tried to destroy its business following the storming of the U.S. Capitol by President Donald Trump supporters.
The social media app is seeking a variety of damages, including triple damages for anticompetitive conduct, according to a report by Reuters.
It was filed in Washington state court on Tuesday, two weeks after Parler resumed online after a one-month absence.
AMAX to reduce data centre energy consumption
AMAX's HPC and AI Solutions Group has announced a new 2U 4-Node density optimised server, ServMaxAE-2484L, designed for single-phase liquid immersion cooling.
Designed for liquid immersion, the ServMaxAE-2484L is set to offer the highest CPU density configuration available, the company claims.
The 2U 4-Node server meets and exceeds extreme density requirements while delivering <1.05 PUE, 10-20% server load reduction plus an average power reduction of ~50% and reduction of cooling energy costs up to 95%.
EU Sets 2030 semiconductors target
The European Union is planning to produce its own advanced semiconductors by 2030, part of the bloc’s plans to reduce “high-risk dependencies” on technology companies in the U.S. and Asia.
Officials say they want to ensure at least 20% of the world’s semiconductors by value are produced in Europe by the end of the decade, according to a draft document obtained by Bloomberg.
“A reduction in critical dependencies will enable the EU to become digitally sovereign and better able to assert European interests,” the EU said in the document, which said its approach would seek to support “the open nature of the Internet.”
