UPC Poland is Poland’s largest cable TV operator, and its network provides broadband, internet, digital television, mobile and digital telephony (VoIP) services to millions of consumers around the country.
The company is also Liberty Global’s largest revenue-generating operation in Central and Eastern Europe and this upgrade is a direct response to several key business imperatives for UPC Poland.
The upgrades include sustaining the quality of user experience across 3.7 million households and thousands of mobile customers while enabling further growth.
Monika Nowak-Toporowicz, vice president and CTIO at UPC Poland & UPC Slovakia said: “Increasingly, service providers need to balance cost, capacity and performance with sustainability factors in their networks.
“UPC Poland’s deployment demonstrates that less can be more with intelligent solutions that combine physical and virtual innovations to deliver the dynamic, responsible network of the future.”
The operator has seen significant growth in traffic on its network which led to a greater focus on how it could remain equipped to handle this growth without falling behind on service, scale and quality.
UPC Poland says sustainability and cost control were key tenets of its vision for the new network. The requirement for potential technology providers was that the chosen routing platform must be able to scale to meet the demand for the next 10 years while also avoiding expensive, wasteful rip-and-replace requirements.
The first network node has already been deployed in Poznan with another in Warsaw to follow. Three more nodes will then be rolled out as the company looks to continue its digital transformation.
Juniper Networks was also recently selected by Palestinian telco Paltel Group to upgrade and develop parts of its network and infrastructure.
This will be done through the installation of a simplified and space for power-conscious network to deliver fixed and mobile services for its business and residential subscriber bases, according to Juniper.
