The decision to extend LINX Nairobi to PAIX Data Centres comes just nine months after its initial launch, driven by significant interest from key networks based at PAIX. LINX has closely engaged with the local engineering community, and the need for expanded infrastructure quickly became apparent.

PAIX Nairobi NBO-1 is located at Britam Tower in Upper Hill, a central business district and a key financial hub for East and Central Africa. With this expansion, networks located at PAIX Data Centres will be only a single cross-connect away from peering with a range of global and local networks, including Meta, ICON Fiber, Mtaani Telecom, Mymanga Networks, and PepeaNet. This addition will enable smoother collaboration and data exchanges between local ISPs and content providers.

The inclusion of PAIX enhances LINX’s interconnection fabric, expanding it to a four-site network. Installation is already underway, with the new setup expected to go live in the coming weeks.

Emmanuel Makina, sales manager at PAIX Data Centres commented on the expansion:

"With our cloud- and carrier-neutral data centre located in the heart of Nairobi’s business district, we serve communities in finance, advertising, broadcasting, and entertainment.

"Our customers, hosting mission-critical equipment, require constant, reliable connectivity in today’s digital economy. By connecting to multiple networks, they can easily scale bandwidth, reduce costs, and experience the lowest latency with their partners."

Makina also highlighted PAIX Nairobi’s strategic location, noting: "Our facility in Upper Hill is a natural communications hub for Nairobi. Customers can colocate their antennas in Britam Tower for wireless connectivity to the entire city."

Jennifer Holmes, chief commercial officer at LINX, expressed surprise at the rapid growth of the Nairobi network commenting, "We didn’t anticipate expanding LINX Nairobi so soon, but we are committed to listening to the needs of the local community.

"By extending peering opportunities to PAIX customers, we’re adding value to LINX Nairobi as a whole and engaging with both local and global networks we’re currently in talks with."

Wouter van Hulten, CEO and founder of PAIX Data Centres, reaffirmed PAIX’s dedication to developing Kenya’s digital infrastructure: "PAIX is fully committed to supporting Kenya’s digital growth with cutting-edge AI hardware and software. Backed by Africa50, a private equity fund in which Kenya is a shareholder, PAIX is building the infrastructure necessary to propel Africa’s digital economy forward."
