When the news of AT&T’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile USA first broke in March 2011, it was billed as a consolidation that would create the largest telecoms company in the world. It would also have been the largest consolidation in any sector in 2011. Now, eight months on, AT&T has announced to the market it is dropping its bid, and the entire saga has left a bad taste in the mouth for all involved.
